  • Tractors in School Visit

Wed 28 Feb 2024 Emma Morris

We had a visit from a local farmer with his tractor on Monday. The pupils all had lots of farming related questions for Tom. He brought along a variety of different crops. He said that the pupils '...were especially well behaved and engaging.'

This inspired William in year 6 to produce his own art work at home, which Tom has now framed on his office wall!

On Tuesday afternoon Chestnut class invited their parents and guardians to our class assembly. The children shared their learning from this half term in Art, English, History and Science. I am sure the parents and guardians who attended will agree, the whole class did a wonderful job of sharing many interesting facts with the audience and answered any questions in detail. Well done Chestnut Class.

Today was our first meeting of the 'Lunchtime Library Squad'. Many children in KS2 have volunteered to read stories to some of our younger pupils in the library on a Wednesday lunchtime. We have a rota for all our wonderful volunteers!

The squad have lots of other jobs to do to help  develop our library and foster a love of reading across the school. Well done for a great first session!

  • Visit about volunteering

Wed 24 Jan 2024 Mrs Plowman
In PSHE, Sycamore Class have been thinking about the communities they are a part of and the volunteers who help in these communities. We were very lucky to have a visit from, a local volunteer in Wetheringsett. She answered all the children's questions and shared some history about volunteering from Wetheringsett's past.

After her visit, some of the children's comments were:

‘Volunteers give up their time to help.’

‘There are lots of people behind the scenes, we should say thank you more.’

‘Volunteers put in a lot of commitment.’

‘It is important to work alongside others.’

‘Volunteering is good for your mental health.’

‘A small community can make a big difference.’

A very big thank you to Mrs Stannard for giving up her time to come in and talk to Sycamore Class and helping us to learn more about volunteering and being part of a community.

  • Forest School

Fri 19 Jan 2024 Mrs Plowman

During this week’s Forest School session, KS2 enjoyed learning about ‘Sound’. They explored which noises they could make and how they could change the pitch and volume of their sounds, e.g. filling bowls with leaves to make the sound dull. The children also noticed the vibrations made through the medium of water when the wheelbarrow was hit with a stick. Sycamore Class were able to tell Mrs Hammond how sound is made and how we hear as they have been learning about 'Sound' in Science and writing explanation texts about it in English.
