National Numeracy Day

The whole school enjoyed participating in National Numeracy Day 2026 today.  Here is a summary of what each class got up to in their classrooms.

Lime Class

After a Number Natter and an online event from TTRS, Lime Class set about on a mission to design and build a play park. They applied their knowledge of shape and space to make decisions and to place each item in their park plan. The children then explored money, finding the right amount of coins to pay for each item. The Early Years children took a more hands-on approach, using Duplo to learn about shape and space. They worked together in teams to build a model of their play park.

Sycamore Class

After a Number Natter and an online event from TTRS, Sycamore Class planned out a new play park for Wetheringsett. First, we had to work out the cost of all the equipment, making sure we took into account the special offers to get the cheapest price. Then, we planned out our parks using large squared paper, thinking carefully about the space. Next, we introduced a café next to the park and worked out all the available food options. To challenge ourselves further, we gave the food items prices and worked out the receipts.

Chestnut Class

After a Number Natter and an online event from TTRS, Chestnut Class set about finding the best deals for purchasing items for a community skate park. They applied their knowledge of addition, multiplication and percentages to calculate the cheapest cost for the skate park. After the skate park activity, the children moved on to solving some real-life problems. These ranged from planning a zoo and calculating exchange rates to finding out how many square meters a can of paint could cover. The children all enjoyed applying their Maths knowledge to solve real-life problems.
